Let’s be real—cotton candy is the ultimate carnival vibe. But if you’re decorating for a party, Halloween, or even a fun photo backdrop, real cotton candy just doesn’t cut it (sticky mess, anyone?). That’s where fake cotton candy comes in! It looks just as sweet, lasts forever, and you can customize the colors to match your theme.

Here’s how I made my own using simple craft supplies: Watch the tutorial here🎥
What You’ll Need 🧵
-
Polyfil quilt batting (for the sturdy inside structure)
-
Polyfil fiber fill (for the fluffy outer layer)
-
Needle felting tools (or a hot glue gun as an alternative)
-
Spray paint in your desired cotton candy colors
-
Scissors
Step-by-Step Instructions ✨
1. Build the Base
Start with the quilt batting. This is sturdier than the loose fiber fill and will give your cotton candy shape without falling apart. Roll it into small sections to create a base “mound.”
2. Close the Seams
Use the needle felting method to connect the seams and lock everything in place. (If needle felting isn’t your thing, hot glue or another adhesive will work too!)
3. Add the Fluff
Now grab your fiber fill. Pull apart small sections and lightly attach them all around your base using needle felting. This creates that soft, fluffy, realistic cotton candy texture.
4. Form the Mound
Keep layering the fiber fill until your cotton candy looks full and natural. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect—real cotton candy is messy and uneven too!
5. Spray Paint the Color
Take your fake cotton candy outside and give it a coat of spray paint. Aim for light, pastel shades for the most realistic effect. (Mine came out a little darker than I wanted since pastel colors weren’t available, but they still looked great!)
This DIY is super easy, budget-friendly, and perfect for party props, Halloween haunted carnival décor, or even photo booth backdrops. It’s one of those crafts that looks like you bought it, but secretly took just a few supplies and a little creativity.
Now you can enjoy the magic of cotton candy—without the sticky fingers! 🍭
